IRISH EYES ON DUCATI DUO
17 May 2006 - Airwaves Ducati

With the Airwaves Ducati riders currently lying first and second in the British Superbike Championship the team heads to Southern Ireland this weekend looking to secure more championship points and extend their lead at the top of the championship standings.

The 2.17mile Mondello Park circuit in is a relatively new circuit to the BSB calendar with the first race being held here in 2003. It is a technically challenging circuit which is popular with riders and in his first visit to the circuit last year Gregorio Lavilla broke the lap record with a time of 1 minute 40.076 when he won the second race.

Gregorio Lavilla has been on the podium in every race so far this season including his winning doubles in the last two rounds at Thruxton and Oulton Park. He has stretched out a 61 point lead and the championship but he was made to work hard for his wins at Oulton Park and is under no illusion that it is going to be easy.

“I am looking forward to Mondello and I hope that the racing is as good as it has been in the last few rounds. I have had some really good results so far but I was made to work very hard by the Honda’s at Oulton Park. I am aiming to go to Mondello Park, do well in qualifying and hopefully get more podium finishes for the team.”

Leon Haslam holds second place in the championship just 13 points ahead of Kiyonari and is looking to close the gap on his team mate. Haslam said, “My priority is to strengthen my position in the championship and hopefully get that elusive win, I’m feeling confident for Mondello as Greg & I achieved our first one-two of the season here last year. I’m also hoping to continue my run of pole positions.”

The racing at Mondello Park commences on Sunday May 21st.
