16 May 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

RR WCH 125: 4th Round: Grand Prix of China/Shanghai:

Mika Kallio and KTM taking victory at the Shanghai circuit after a tremendously clever race, with team colleague Julian Simon just 1 second behind at fifth place.

Mika Kallio and Julian Simon winning the start of the race, being involved in 19 laps constant battles in a leading pack of six, each of them possible to win. “Flying Finn” Mika Kallio on his KTM FRR 125 being the successful one and seeing the chequered flag first. Spanish team mate Julian Simon following within one second behind at fifth position.

The Red Bull KTM Juniors Stefan Bradl und Michael Ranseder finished their first participation at Shanghai with position 22 and 33, after some misfortune during the race.

Mika Kallio # 36 Red Bull KTM GP 125 — Winner
”I’m very happy as it was a difficult race. I had some sliding problems with the front, but as my KTM was running so fast I could compensate and take the win. The last lap was important to have the right tactic and I was lucky that my plan did work out.”

Julian Simon # 60 Red Bull KTM GP 125 — 5th Place
“Right now I’m a bit disappointed after hard battles in the leading group finishing fifth instead on the podium. But after all it was a good race with many fights and I had good fun out there. My bike was running very well and today everything between first and sixth was possible. And I know I’m there and next time it might be me on the top.”

Stefan Bradl # 17 Red Bull KTM Junior Team — 20th Place
”My start was good and I had strong battles all through the 19 laps. My plan was to finish 16th,as the first one in our group, but one guy did push me off the track and some other riders could pass me as well. So I did finish only 20th. At the moment I’m not 100% happy but we have next round already next week at Le Mans. So there is not much time left for being angry.”

Michael Ranseder # 9 Red Bull KTM Junior Team — 33rd Place
“I had a real good start and could already make some positions on the brake, but unfortunately my race was disrupted already before finishing the first lap being taken off the track by Zanetti who was missing his braking point for far. That was big misfortune as we did solve the problems with my rear suspension from yesterday and the bike was running well. So after the crash I could join back the race but only could collect valuable data and track experience as the rest of the field was gone by the time I was back on the bike.”

Harald Bartol — Technical and Managing Director
“Mika really deserved this result as he was running strong and real clever. Also Julian was doing a very good race in the leading pack. The team did again work hard and successful over the weekend and I would like to thank everybody at KTM and all others for their best support.”
