BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 28.8.04
28 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

HULL are on the verge of completing a sensational Premier League title - just a year after finishing bottom!

The Vikings will be confirmed as champions if they take a point from their trip to King''s Lynn - or if Workington drop points at Berwick. Vikings star Garry Stead said: ''It was tough last year, it''s much easier to enjoy your speedway when you are in a winning team and we''re almost there.''

SIMON Stead has been installed as the favourite to win the Premier League Riders'' Championship at his former track Sheffield on September 19. And Stead''s Workington colleague Carl Stonehewer is ranked just behind Stead with Newcastle''s Jason Lyons this, according to bookmakers William Hill. Sheffield co-promoter Neil Machin said: ''Our own Andre Compton is rated 12/1 and when you look down the field it''s a massive line-up.''

William Hill PLRC odds as at 28.8.04:
Simon Stead (Workington) 5/4, Carl Stonehewer (Workington) 11/2, Jason Lyons (Newcastle) 13/2, Craig Watson (Newport) 9/1, Shane Parker (Glasgow) 10/1, Danny Bird (Reading) 12/1, Andre Compton (Sheffield) 12/1, Craig Boyce (Isle of Wight) 20/1, Tomas Topinka (King''s Lynn) 20/1, Mark Lemon
