KTM NORTH AMERICA - GNCC SERIES, ROUND 6: SEYMOUR, MO
09 May 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Already dubbed one of the toughest GNCC race in years, the Seymour, MO Showtime! Grand National Cross Country event showed riders the toughest of conditions, but Juha battled through and took home his seventh win in a row.
In muddy and rugged conditions, loose rocks and tree roots lined the track as Juha Salminen jumped out to an early lead, with teammates Mike Lafferty and Robbie Jenks in the top ten. On a gnarly muddy and rocky uphill section, Salminen got stuck and young Charlie Mullins, Lafferty and Barry Hawk got around him and set Salminen back one minute behind the leaders. Salminen removed himself from the muck and made a huge charge to the front of the pack, regaining his place in first. Lafferty and Jenks were riding smart and controlled and were staying inside the top ten. At the end of lap three, Salminen stopped for gas and dropped to second place. ''U-Haul'' Salminen caught Mullins, but due to a few mistakes, the battle for first was close and raging. Lafferty was putting in an amazing effort, but twisted his knee so badly he was forced to pull out of the race. Jenks had a bad crash and was also forced out of the race. Support rider Shane Watts was quietly moving inside of the top ten, riding smoothly and cleverly. All day, Mullins and Hawk were tailing Salminen and as he stopped for gas one last time, Hawk and Mullins made a pass, and Salminen once again had to make a hard charge to regain his lead. Salminen crossed the line fifteen seconds before second place and Shane Watts finished a strong tenth. GNCC Results, Round 6: Seymour, MO 1. Juha Salminen KTM 2. Barry Hawk 3. Charlie Mullins 4.
