AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, ROUND 16; LAS VEGAS
08 May 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

After a long and dramatic season, the 2006 Supercross Series came to an end in Las Vegas, NV and saw Mike Alessi collect his best finish in Supercross.

The West Coast riders met the East Coast riders for the Dave Coombs Sr. East and West Coast shoot out for bragging rights - who is actually the fastest rider out there?

The first heat race of West riders lined the gates for the qualifiers and Mike Alessi was fourth, advancing to the main while teammate, Nathan Ramsey was fifteenth and moved to the Last Chance Qualifier. Ramsey did not qualify for the main event. East Coast riders were next and Jay Marmont placed sixth, advancing to the main.

As the gates dropped, the riders blasted down the short straight with the tight left-hand turn and Mike Alessi squeezed through and took the lead for the next three laps. Teammate Jay Marmont had a top five start and continued to battle it out until he faded back to fourteenth for the night. Meanwhile, Mike continued to battle with the likes of Davi Millsaps, Andrew Short and Josh Grant. Millsaps and Short got around Alessi and Grant was hot on his tail. After some intense battles, Grant had a huge crash and Alessi continued on his way. Millsaps also went down hard and Alessi moved into second, where he finished for the night. This is his career-best Supercross finish.
