LAVILLA SPINS OUT ON RALLY CIRCUIT
08 May 2006 - Bennetts British Superbike

Bennetts, the official sponsor of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, put current title leader, Gregorio Lavilla, to the test by pitting his racing skills against Oulton Park’s special rally stage.

Bennetts, the UK’s number one for motorcycle insurance, arranged for Lavilla to take to the rally track in a fully race-prepared Escort Cosworth, to see if he could transfer his smooth racing style to the slippery bends and corners of the purpose-built rally track.

The reigning Bennetts British Superbike Champion soon got to grips with the course, sending the car sideways into the corners on the perfect racing line, but the slick surface did cause some problems, with more than one spin evident during the session!

The Airwaves Ducati rider, said: “It was brilliant to test myself on the rally circuit as I have never tried this kind of racing before. The car was all over the track and it was hard just going in a straight line but once you get the throttle control right you can really get the car going.

“I felt quite at home on four wheels and, whilst I loved every minute, I don’t think I’ll be switching sports just yet.”

Kal Samra, Bennetts’ Managing Director, said: “Gregorio is leading the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the minute but we wanted to see how fast he was on four wheels. It seems, from his performance on the rally stage, that you can’t slow the man down and we are delighted that he enjoyed the experience.”
