03 May 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 SHEFFIELD youngster Ben Wilson won the British Under-21 Championship at King''s Lynn on Wednesday evening. Wilson and second-placed Daniel King have now qualified automatically for the semi-finals of the World tournament. Eastbourne''s 16-year-old Lewis Bridger finished third, and he along with Steve Boxall and James Wright have progressed to the World qualifying round at Sheffield later this month. SPEEDWAY 2 COVENTRY became the first winners of the Elite Shield as the reigning League Champions defended their 12-point first leg lead over Cup holders Belle Vue. The second leg at Kirkmanshulme Lane had a dramatic finale as the Aces required a 5-1 in the last race to snatch aggregate victory. But Bees skipper Scott Nicholls got the better of Simon Stead and the previously undefeated Jason Crump to secure the silverware. SPEEDWAY 3 STOKE have made a team change with Trent Leverington joining the Potters for his second spell with the club. The Australian replaces Michael Coles with promoter Dave Tattum acting after a heavy defeat at Workington on Bank Holiday Monday. Tattum said: ''I''d like to thank Michael for his efforts, but he wasn''t at ease and I think Trent will stiffen the team quite a bit.''
