T4 BIKE TYRES ARE GREEN AND PLEASANT
06 May 2006 - Maxsport

New Tomahawk T4 Superbike Tyres are friendly to the environment and your pocket!

Tomahawk, the UK’s pioneering manufacturer of retread radial motorcycle tyres, have added a 200 section tyre to their range in response to steadily increasing demand from British and European riders.

The British company is gearing up production in anticipation of EU legislation that will come into force in June this year. The Landfill Directive (1999) bans the disposal of all waste tyres in landfill sites. With over 2.5 million tonnes of waste tyres arising in Europe each year, of which over 1.3 million tonnes were disposed of in landfill, this will create a significant problem for disposal businesses. According to the Used Tyre Working Group, approximately 600,000 motorcycle tyres needed disposal in 2000. Either the cost of disposal will increase, which will be passed onto consumers or the tyres will need to be reused.

Which is where Tomahawk come into play. Retreading motorcycle tyres is a highly specialised technique and Tomahawk has unrivalled experience of taking an existing tyre carcass and re-vulcanising new ''virgin'' rubber back on. Production is centred in a 37,000 square foot factory at Rhayader in Mid Wales, which is accredited to ISO9001:2000. Every tyre can be traced from when it entered the premises as a carcass to the time it left as a new re-treaded tyre.

Tomahawk understand that riders rarely replace front and rear tyres simultaneously and so they clearly identify the make and model of the original carcass on all of their products so that customers may mix and match. Three compounds are available; Road, for every day use and good rates of wear, Sport, for spirited riding on road or track and Sprint, which is ideally suited to track days.

The Tomahawk T4 ZR/50 ZR17 rear tyre sells for £79.95 inc. VAT. Their prices are typically 1/3rd the cost of comparable new tyres, so customers can save money and help to save the planet too.
