AIRWAVES DUCATI AND Q8OILS EXTEND CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD
03 May 2006 - Q8 Oils

Airwaves Ducati finished Round Four of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship in spectacular style, with a double win for rider Gregorio Lavilla, who now leads the championship by 61 points.

Ducati currently leads the manufacturers’ championship by a commanding 49 points.

Team mate Leon Haslam, who put the team in pole position, had a mixed day’s racing, coming 3rd in the first race before stalling prior to the warm up lap in the second race. As a result he had to start from the pit lane on his spare bike, scything through the entire field to finish in a well-fought 7th place.

Both races developed into a closely fought battle between the Italian V-twins of Airwaves Ducati and Japanese in-line fours. In race one Lavilla went head-to-head with Shane Byrne of Rizla Suzuki, who temporarily took the lead before Lavilla reclaimed it to take the chequered flag.

Race two started ominously when Haslam’s bike stalled prior to the warm up lap, knocking him off pole and forcing him to start the race from the pit lane on his spare bike. When the race commenced Lavilla moved into the lead by lap 3, holding off a ferocious challenge from Karl Harris on his HM Pant Honda Fireblade. On the final lap Harris made two daring attempts for the lead, but Lavilla fought back in style and crossed the line just 0.058 seconds ahead of the Honda to take his second win of the day.

“It’s very exciting for us to see our lubricants being tested to the limits. When the competition is so strong we know just how important it is to supply product that performs consistently and thanks to our highly experienced development team, Q8Oils can do just that,” said Denis Stone of Q8Oils. “With only eight Ducati 999F06 motorcycles in existence, we are extremely proud that Q8Oils are being relied upon to help keep the BSB share of these potent V-twins running smoothly.”
