THE CROWNING OF A LEGEND
26 August 2004 - Harley-Davidson UK

Leading 14 Battle It Out In Austria For Harley-Davidson Title

Harley-Davidson UK has been searching for a legend all summer and now the time has come to decide who should win the prestigious title of Best Sportster 2004. After two rigorous rounds of judging, 14 leading Best Sportster contenders will now battle it out in the final at European Bike Week in Faaker See, Austria. And the motorcycle judged head and shoulders above the rest will see its owner ride off on a brand new Sportster.

The final on Saturday, September 4 at European Bike Week promises to be a spectacular event. As well as taking in the sights and sounds of the various stunt shows, fashion shows, ride-outs and musical entertainment, the finalists will also see their prized motorcycles displayed in front of more than 60,000 people.

If this kudos is not enough, Harley-Davidson UK will really set spirits soaring by awarding the winner of each of the five categories with a breath-taking helicopter flight over the exquisite Austrian landscape. From these five category winners, the team of judges will select the ultimate Sportster – the motorcycle they believe deserves to be called the UK’s Best Sportster 2004.

To compete in Austria the finalists had to undergo two rounds of rigorous judging. The ‘Do You Own A Legend?’ competition kicked off in May and invited all Sportster owners in the UK to celebrate Harley-Davidson’s longest-running model family by entering their motorcycle into any of the five categories. These focussed on areas such as customisation and paintwork.

Entrants took part in first round judging during open days at their nearest Harley-Davidson dealership; winners then progressed onto three regional finals held at Harley-Davidson Owners’ Group (H.O.G) rallies. The three-day-long H.O.G events at Wakefield, Markyate and Bisley provided the ideal platform for the regional finals, drawing in crowds from far and wide to witness some of the UK’s best Sportsters secure their ticket to Faaker See for the final.
