GNCC SERIES: ROUND 5, HURRICANE MILLS, TN
24 April 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Juha Salminen collected his fifth straight win of the 2006 GNCC season in hot and humid Hurricane Mills, TN.

On a wide, wet and slick course, Juha jumped off the start in second, but quickly moved into first by the second corner. Teammate Robbie Jenks had a strong start just outside of the top ten while Mike Lafferty struggled and then made a hard charge to make up for lost time.

Already leading the pack, Juha set the standard for the race and no one could match him. Lafferty and Jenks, determined to be in the top spots, began picking off riders and both moved into the top ten. Salminen was finding that the GNCC riders were not backing down and he had a difficult time shaking them. On the first three laps he took a wrong turn at the same place and lost time. On the third lap he almost paid the ultimate racing price as Charlie Mullins, Glenn Kearney and Barry Hawk passed him. Juha was on the gas and picked off two riders and then pitted for gas on lap 4. Mullins pitted first and then Salminen, who had a faster stop and blasted off from the KTM pits collecting the lead once again. Lafferty pitted eighth and Jenks ran out of gas before he could get to the tents and dropped way back. Finding his speed, Lafferty charged up to sixth position, but one rider got around him and he finished in seventh. Meanwhile, Salminen had a burst of energy and sprinted a minute and forty-eight seconds ahead of second place.
