SIMEON TAKES GSX-R CUP POLE
23 April 2006 - Suzuki Racing
Belgian Xavier Simeon continued his domination of practice by taking pole position for the opening round of the Suzuki GSX-R European Cup in Valencia, Spain tomorrow.
At the end of today''s final qualifying session his lap of 1:41.272 was nearly a second faster than his nearest challenger, Austrian Rene Mahr. Third quickest was Spaniard Salvador Cabana with German Phillip Hafeneger fourth. Xavier Simeon - Pole, 1:41.272: “The team worked hard and the front suspension felt much better today than yesterday. It was a good practice session and I felt very comfortable on the bike this afternoon. Even the rain which fell about six minutes from the end didn''t dampen my enthusiasm. “For me, it''s been a perfect day because earlier I won the Superstock 600 European Championship race, so to get pole for the Suzuki Cup is like icing on the cake! For this I want to thank all the team. “Now I want to repeat my performance from this afternoon''s race and win the Suzuki Cup race tomorrow and at the moment I cannot see any reason why that is not possible!” GSX-R Cup Final Qualifying: 1 Simeon (B-Suzuki), 2 Mahr (A-Suzuki), 3 Cabana (E-Suzuki), 4 Hafeneger (D-Suzuki), 5 Ortega (E-Suzuki), 6 Hervas ((E-Suzuki).
