SIMEON ON PROVISIONAL GSX-R CUP POLE
21 April 2006 - Suzuki Racing
Belgian Xavier Simeon topped the standings on the opening day of qualifying for the first round of the 2006 Suzuki GSX-R European Cup at Valencia today.
Simeon was not only the fastest rider around the 4.005 kilometre circuit, but his time of 1:41.860 was over one second ahead of his nearest rivals. Second place went to Spanish ‘wild card’ Alex Hervas with Austrian Rene Mahr third and another Spanish ‘wild card’ Ismael Ortega fourth. Xavi Simeon - 1st: “That was a good day and I’m happy to be first, but I had some problems with my front suspension and I could not enter the turns the way I wanted to. Tomorrow we’ll make a few alterations and see if we can improve the front end feel for me. Otherwise everything else was all ok. I really like this track and I do not find it as demanding as some of the other riders. I’m looking forward to the race and aiming for a podium.” First GSX-R Cup Qualifying: 1 Simeon (B-Suzuki) 1:41.860, 2 Hervas (E-Suzuki), 1:43.039, 3 Mahr (A-Suzuki) 1:43.108, 4 Ortega (E-Suzuki) 1:43.474, 5 Bonilla (E-Suzuki) 1:43.880, 6 Hafeneger ((D-Suzuki) 1:43.893
