ALSTARE AIMS FOR VALENCIA VICTORY
21 April 2006 - Suzuki Racing
Reigning World Superbike Champion Troy Corser and the Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra team are aiming for the podium at this weekend’s third-round World Superbike Championship round at Valencia in Spain.
Corser, who is currently third in the series, won both races there last season aboard his GSX-R1000 and is hoping that the positive results gained from the team’s recent Valencia and Misano tests will put him back in the winning circle. Team mate’s Yukio Kagayama and Fabien Foret are also upbeat and optimistic for good results following Kagayama’s third and fourth placings in 2005. It will be Foret’s first time on a Superbike at Valencia and he''s hoping to increase his knowledge of his new bike and finish in the points. Troy Corser: ''I am happy because we did an excellent job during the tests in Valencia and Misano. We solved a couple of problems which slowed us down in the first two rounds which allowed us to work on finding a good set-up for the bike and I think we''re heading in the right direction now. The lap times were good and I will be going all-out to win both races in Valencia. For sure, they''re going to be a couple of tough races, but if the conditions are favourable, there’s no reason why we can’t come away with really good results.” Yukio Kagayama: ''It was not the season’s start I had dreamed of. Two DNF’s in Qatar was a disaster, particularly because I was about to win the first race! I was not at my level best in Australia but the break between Australia and Spain helped me regain my concentration and my determination. The last tests have allowed us to do important development on both the bike and the engine. I''m on top form and I think I can play a major role in this weekend''s races and end up on the podium both times.'' Fabien Foret: ''After the first two races my morale was a little low but the lap times proved that we progressed a lot during the two tests. In Valencia, I''m hoping to make it into the Superpole for the first time and finish in the points. After that my aim is to be a consistent top-15 finisher with maybe some top-10 placings as well.”
