CYCLE CAT DEMONSTRATES IT PROWESS WITH RIPS™
19 April 2006 - Cycle Cat
Patented rips™ Bar Mounting and Rearset Systems Developed for Italian Sport Bikes
Now Available for Japanese Makes Cycle Cat, a leading designer and manufacturer of aftermarket products for performance motorcycles, wants every rider out there to get “fully ripped.” Which is why it has expanded its patented rips™ or “rider integrated positioning system” to include an ever-expanding range of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha performance models, including newly released kits for the Honda RC51 and the Suzuki GSX1300R models. Rips is a unique system for the adjustment of the four critical points of contact for the rider – the foot pegs and handlebars on a motorcycle. Developed initially to facilitate a more comfortable riding position on Italian sport bikes, including dozens of Ducati models and the Aprilia RSV Mille, rips makes it possible for riders to precisely “dial in” the ergonomics of their motorcycle to meet their specific requirements. A seamless solution, rips optimizes the connection between rider and machine. “It’s all about the ergonomics,” says Alfred Kobacker, President of Cycle Cat. “The proper fit of the rider to the bike and the bike to the rider matters immensely. A bike that is custom fit to its rider minimizes fatigue and injury, and maximizes comfort, endurance, range, and on-road performance. With rips, you can customize your bike specifically for your body and riding style.” A full rips combination bar mounting system and rearset system utilizes multi-adjustable bar risers and multi-adjustable rearsets together in an integrated package. Once installed, it allows a user to maximize ergonomics in both areas, by taking advantage of every available millimeter of adjustment potential on the bars and the footpeg placements on the bike. On a typical rips rearset, manufactured entirely of billet aluminum with a titanium main screw, there are 72 possible adjustments to the footpeg carrier, three different positions for the peg itself, and a fine adjustment of the toe piece that permits approximately a ¾-inch up, down, backward and forward movement. This translates to 216 possible peg positions on each side – featuring an infinite range of toe peg positions – certainly one to satisfy every rider. Moreover, riders can easily adjust the rearset in about two minutes, making it possible to provide a setting for long freeway travel, followed by a quick conversion for track use, and then back again. Apart from the replacement of hydraulic lines or cables, which are included where necessary, Cycle Cat bar mounting systems achieve their extraordinary range of adjustment without permanent modification to the bike. They typically provide a range of adjustment far in excess of what anyone will ever use. The riser incorporates a clamp design that permits easy, immediate access to the range of adjustments. By locating the bar clamp screws on top, clear and free of obstructions, it is about a two-minute procedure to adjust the bar angle. Cycle Cat handlebars are CNC-machined out of aluminum stock and anodized. Even the bars themselves are machined inside and out to make them the best performing bar possible. Because Cycle Cat handlebars are solid where they clamp to the riser, they provide a dependable clamping surface and an appropriate location for a redundant retaining screw for added safety. Wherever applications permit, Cycle Cat bars are designed slightly longer than stock, providing riders with increased leverage, and for many, a perceptible change in responsiveness without sacrificing stability. In addition, though the systems are adjustable so riders can reset their machines depending upon the type of riding they plan to do, all rips products are constructed with patented mechanisms that cannot loosen or change position. Every fitting is engineered to provide weld-like strength, delivering brilliant feedback and outstanding control. “With rips, a performance bike can not only be made more comfortable, but feedback and rider control are increased, and the system will give any bike a more aggressive, enhanced-from-stock appearance,” says Kobacker. Cycle Cat’s entire lineup of performance products is available exclusively through more than 200 leading dealers and tuning shops in the U.S., as well as a limited number of dealers in Australia, Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico, as well as a select number of Internet-exclusive “e-dealers.” Rips multi-adjustable rearset kits are available beginning at $545.00 (U.S.), with multi-adjustable bar mounting systems starting at $290.00 (U.S.). Established in 2000, Cycle Cat is a division of Abranda LLC, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Cycle Cat performance products are marketed and distributed through Moto Millennia and oncycles.com, the importing and wholesaling arm, and Internet retail company respectively, of Havensmark LLC, a separate division of Abranda LLC.
