SPEEDWAY 1 NICKI Pedersen has vowed to give maximum effort in his bid to retain the Elite League Riders'' Championship at Poole on Sunday (5pm). The Eastbourne rider, who lifted the title at Swindon last season, has started the new campaign in blistering form. He said: ''It''s a massive line-up and I''m determined to win the title again, it''s a big competition for any rider to win and I''m going for it!'' SPEEDWAY 2 REDCAR owner Chris Van Straaten has admitted lessons were learnt on the club''s opening night. Fans packed the South Tees Motorsport Park for the Premier Trophy clash with Sheffield. Van Straaten said: ''It was a very traumatic day. We have learned things we need to do, especially in terms of spectator comfort. We were overwhelmed by the size of the crowd, many went home happy, one or two not.''
