POWERFUL VXR 200CC SCOOTER ADDED TO GILERA RUNNER RANGE
19 April 2006 - Piaggio
Following the re-vamp of the Gilera Runner series in 2005, Gilera is now set to introduce the most powerful version ever, the Runner VXR 200cc.
Destined to leave competitors stranded with its unique blend of motorcycle-style ride and scooter practicality, the Gilera Runner VXR 200cc combines style and performance for those seeking a racy, sensation-packed ride based on the original design concept of the Gilera Runner. The Gilera Runner revolutionised the scooter market at its launch in 1997 and the Runner VXR 200cc joins the Runner VX 125cc, Runner PureJet 50cc and Runner SP 50cc, all of which remain ever-popular and at the top of their respective categories. The new Runner VXR 200cc with its sporty styling, four-valve, avant-garde liquid-cooled engine is sure to set hearts racing with its powerful acceleration. The engine has been designed with unrivalled engineering and the stunning sports styling result in the Gilera Runner''s reputation as the ultimate performance scooter. First-rate road grip and pure engine performance combined with motorcycle-style brakes makes this scooter one of the most exciting rides in its field. The design of the new Gilera Runner reflects the concept of a scooter with the soul of a motorcycle. The Gilera Runner offers a similar riding position to a sports bike, where the rider takes full control of the vehicle from a low seated position. The striking front reflects the vehicle''s power; the sleek rear its dynamism. Painted parts and technical elements alternate on the sharp contours of the Runner''s side panels and add to the overall striking design. Other classic Gilera Runner features displayed on the Runner VXR 200cc include the two Runner shaped headlamps covered by a single transparent lens complete with the Gilera logo, and the aluminium-reinforced frame which emphasises the vehicle rigidity and forms a fundamental part of the chassis. The new analogue-digital instrument panel is in line with the Runner VXR 200cc''s powerful look and performance. Backlit in red, the instrumentation includes a rev counter and LCD display with a speedometer, odometer and tripometer, fuel gauge, cooling liquid temperature indicator and a clock. A comprehensive set of warning lights includes a fuel reserve, turn signals, main beam and engine oil level. The double cradle frame in high-tensile tubular steel with pressed sheet metal reinforcements has been re-designed to obtain the highest torsion rigidity and fluid shock absorption, allowing the rider to make full use of engine power by taking advantage of its taut handling. With the fuel tank mounted in the central tunnel, the vehicle has a lower centre of gravity centralising the weight of the rider. The 200cc also has twin hydraulic shock absorbers to ensure elastic manoeuvring and stable, pinpoint steering. All four versions of the new Gilera Runner feature bigger wheels complete with new wheel rims made of light alloy with a racy six-spoke design. The brakes are a fundamental part of the Runner''s appetite for turbo-charged riding. Quick acceleration and reduced stopping distance are easy to achieve thanks to the two disc brakes and a twin-piston floating calliper in front and a single-piston calliper at the rear. The Gilera Runner VXR 200cc can be ridden by anyone with a full bike licence and offers sparkling performance especially in terms of acceleration and progression, making it perfect for the ''stop-and go'' use typical of town traffic. The Runner VXR 200cc comes with an electronic immobilizer as standard while a wide range of accessories can be used to personalise the new Gilera super-sport scooter including high windscreen with hand covers, electronic alarm, standard anti-theft device, side stand and Gilera Runner branded full-face helmet. Available in Black and Grey Racer, the Runner VXR 200cc is in UK dealerships nation-wide now and costs £2,699 including a two-year warranty and one-year free roadside assistance.
