SPEEDWAY 1 SHEFFIELD gatecrashed Redcar''s opening-night party by taking a narrow 46-44 win in the first-ever meeting at the South Tees Motorsports Park. The bumper crowd were able to salute a full maximum from skipper Gary Havelock, but Tigers reserve Paul Cooper also starred with paid 16. Sheffield co-promoter Neil Machin said: ''The most important thing for us was getting our first away win, but it''s great to see a new venue opening.'' SPEEDWAY 2 READING maintained their 100 per cent away record this season by winning at Blunsdon to knock Swindon out of the Cup by a 14-point margin. The Robins had been slight favourites with only a four-point deficit to pull back, but the Bulldogs romped to their fourth win on the road. Polish reserve Janusz Kolodziej was again the key man with paid 14 as the Smallmead club advanced to the quarter-finals.
