WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
24 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

WOLVERHAMPTON promoter Chris Van Straaten is refusing to take second place in the Skybet Elite League for granted as they go to Arena Essex on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Should they finish runners-up in the regular standings they will book themselves a home draw in the all-important play-offs which will decide the eventual champions. He said: ''I''m not over-confident. Ipswich have started to mount a serious challenge to us and we know what we have to do, we want that second place but I''m not sure we can get it. ''Peter Adams and the team have set out a plan to try and achieve things but we need some good weather to get out on track to try and achieve that.'' Wolves go to Purfleet with a massive 62-30 lead from the first leg between the two teams at Monmore Green only last week and they will collect at least the aggregate bonus point. Chris Neath is back at reserve for the Monmore men with Freddie Lindgren in the main body of the team. Arena give a debut to former Wolves man Roman Povazhny who has been signed for the rest of the season as cover for the injured Joash Larsen. They are yet to name their replacement for Kelvin Tatum who has quit the sport because of increased pain in his hip which needs major surgery this winter. ARENA ESSEX: Mark Loram, Greg Walasek, Roman Povazhny, Dean Barker, Paul Hurry, Leigh Lanham, AN Other.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Mikael Max, Daniel Nermark R/R, Freddie Lindgren, Sam Ermolenko, David Howe, Chris Neath, Adam Skornicki.
