THE APRILIA ART CHALLENGE
18 April 2006 - Aprilia
May 1st sees the launch of a new and unique visual arts challenge, created by Inspired Art Fair for their 2006 headline sponsor Aprilia, the famous Italian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer.
The Aprilia Art Challenge asks artists to submit conceptual ideas on how they would use some or all parts of an Aprilia Mojito scooter to represent ‘The Nature of Urban Life''. The challenge fuses engineering and art, and offers artists a unique take on the stylish Mojito scooter. The winner of the Aprilia Art Challenge gets their very own Mojito scooter; a three day trip for two to Aprilia’s headquarters in Venice and two VIP tickets to a Size club night at the Ministry of Sound (MoS). Whoever finishes second also gets a trip for two to Aprilia’s Venice home, plus two VIP tickets to a MoS Size night, while the third place prize also includes tickets for the Size night and a set of Aprilia official clothing. Inspired Art Fair (IAF) Managing Director, Jo George says: “I’m delighted that Aprilia loved our idea. I admire their longevity as the creative leader in scooter trends and I hope this competition will capture artists’ imagination. It’s a great opportunity for artists to raise their profiles.” The IAF has a reputation for attracting innovative artists. When they approached Aprilia with the unusual proposal that included using the Ministry of Sound (MoS) radio, and popular ‘Size’ club nights with MixMag’s DJ of the year Steve Angelo, the Italian brand was immediately interested. Aprilia General Manager, Massimo Granata says: “The IAF’s concept of asking artists to focus on the scooter as a whole and working with its integral parts attracted us the most. Art challenges usually focus only on working on the exterior.” Three conceptual designs will be chosen by a panel of judges including IAF’s Jo George and Aprilia’s Massimo Granata. Once the selection committee has chosen the best idea, the winner will have access to a Mojito scooter and scooter parts to bring their piece of art to life. The final piece of art and the three winning artworks will be exhibited at the fourth annual Inspired Art Fair held at Christchurch in Spitalfields from 8-12 November 2006, and will also be unveiled on a micro website linked to www.inspiredartfair.com. Full details of the Aprilia Art Challenge and how to enter your ‘Nature of Urban Life’ concept can be found at www.inspiredartfair.com after 1st May 2006. The deadline for artwork entries is 31 August 2006.
