WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY: WOLVES 48 PETERBOROUGH 42
10 April 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
PETER Karlsson played the perfect captain''s role to inspire Wolverhampton to a 48-42 Elite League win over Peterborough. Karlsson, who spent last season on loan with the Panthers, dropped just a point to his former club as he helped the Monmore men to their first league points of the season. He received superb support from the spectacular Californian Billy Hamill who displayed the type of form which helped him to his world individual title a decade ago. And rookie reserve Christian Hefenbrock was excellent in defeating Grand Prix star Niels Kristian Iversen for a massive win on Heat 14 which helped keep the match in Wolverhampton''s favour. Track conditions were superb and there were several breathtaking moves to keep the crowd entertained. In Heat 11 Hans Andersen went wide in the first turn but Hamill locked up on the inside and passed him superbly. It was the form Hamill showed a decade ago when he won his only world title. Andersen gained revenge two races later with a spectacular move of his own to keep Peter Karlsson at arm''s length with Hamill also closing in. And in the all-important Heat 15, when Panthers needed a maximum 5-1 to share the spoils, Peter Karlsson got some drive in the early stages to outpace Andersen with Hamill working overtime to edge out Jesper B Jensen. WOLVERHAMPTON: Peter Karlsson 14, Billy Hamill 11+1, Christian Hefenbrock 10+1, Freddie Lindgren 8, Ronnie Correy 2+1, Magnus Karlsson 2, Ben Wilson 1. PETERBOROUGH: Hans Andersen 12, Jesper B Jensen 11+1, Niels Kristian Iversen 6+2, Ryan Sullivan 6, Ulrich Ostergaard 5+2, Richard Hall 2, Tomasz Bajerski R/R.
