RR250 WCH: 2ND ROUND, 2ND QF: QATAR DOHA/LOSAIL
07 April 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Red Bull KTM GP 250 on eighth and ninth position at Losail circuit

Red Bull KTM 250 starts the young project with two riders in the 2006 season. Hiroshi Aoyama and Manuel Poggiali have been chosen as they both posses a lot of experience as well as the potential to develop the bike as quick as possible.

The KTM FRR250 was run only a couple of times during last season, so there is not much data available to find the best possible set up to allow the riders to achieve fast lap times.

Today’s qualifying is proof that the team around Harald Bartol, as the technical and managing director, is working in the right direction. Both riders improved their lap times by more than 0,5 sec and will start from eighth and ninth position on the grid at the Losail circuit on the outskirts of Doha/Qatar. As their qualifying times were done on race tyres the team is looking forward to a successful race tomorrow.

Hiroshi Aoyama # 4 Red Bull KTM GP 250 –8th position – 2’03.031
”We could improve chassis set up a little bit - I’m not so happy, as I was expecting a better lap time. My team will work hard tonight and I believe we will be able to find a better setting for the race during warm up. For the race, I need a good start, to avoid being involved too much in the battles in the middle of the field.”

Manuel Poggiali # 54 Red Bull KTM GP 250 –9th position – 2’03.426
”I’m happy with my result of today and I know that I can go even faster tomorrow, but today, during the last minutes, my tyre was finished. Otherwise I could have done even better. We found a good race tyre for tomorrow and I’m confident and looking forward for a very good race.”

Harald Bartol — Technical and Managing Director
“I’m satisfied with the results of both riders, especially as I can see Manuel starts to come back to his previous form. This weekend confirms that we are working in the right direction - slowly but constantly we improve our KTM. Also for tomorrow we found a good setting and as we were only using race tyres during qualifying I’m quite confident for the race.”
