Eastbourne 46 Wolves 44 (Elite League) BILLY Hamill gave his best performance so far in a Wolverhampton race-jacket but was just unable to spearhead an away win at Arlington on Saturday. The American ace twice got the better of ex-Wolves star Nicki Pedersen during the closing stages of a typically close-fought meeting between the two rivals, but the Dane''s second place in Heat 15 proved crucial. Pedersen and Wolves skipper Peter Karlsson were the dominant forces in the early part of the match with Karlsson setting the tone by surging past David Norris in the first race. Neither side could open up anything other than a two-point lead but the Eagles suffered a blow when Brent Werner crashed heavily in Heat 7 and was taken to hospital with a collarbone injury. Wolves turned the screw with a 5-1 in Heat 8 after Andrew Moore had fallen, but the home side hit back immediately with maximum points of their own in the next race. Two shared heats followed before Ronnie Correy managed to split Dean Barker and Lewis Bridger in Heat 12 as the Eagles appeared set for maximum points. Even so, the home side were four points clear and the teams then traded 4-2s in the next two races which left Eastbourne with just the margin they needed to clinch victory in the last heat despite Hamill''s heroics. EASTBOURNE: Nicki Pedersen 13, Adam Shields 9+1, Dean Barker 8+2, David Norris 5+1, Lewis Bridger 5, Andrew Moore 3+1, Brent Werner 3. WOLVES: Billy Hamill 12, Fredrik Lindgren 11, Peter Karlsson 9, Magnus Karlsson 5+1, Christian Hefenbrock 4+1, Ronnie Correy 3+1, Daniel Giffard 0.
