AIRWAVES DUCATI LOOKING TO STRENGTHEN CHAMPIONSHIP POSITION AT DONINGTON PARK
06 April 2006 - Airwaves Ducati

British Superbike Champion Gregorio Lavilla and team mate Leon Haslam are looking ahead to the second round of BSB action this weekend.

The Airwaves Ducati riders are hoping to further improve their championship standings after the first round.

The team had mixed fortunes at Brands Hatch; Lavilla took maximum points in the first race whilst his team mate spectacularly crashed at Paddock Hill bend. Haslam then put on a gutsy ride in race two where he took second place, Lavilla displayed an equally impressive performance to finish 3rd.

The championship standings after round one see Airwaves Ducati rider Gregorio Lavilla leading with a 3 point advantage over Kiyonari. Karl Harris in third and Haslam fourth.

Round 2 will be a home coming for local boy Leon Haslam who was a guest at the opening of the Derbyshire circuit after its £5 million refurbishment. Despite suffering a dislocated ankle in his fall at Brands Hatch Haslam is looking forward to racing at his home circuit.

“Donington is a great circuit and I always enjoy racing here. I am especially looking forward to this weekend because the circuit has had such a fantastic re-development and I get great support here. Obviously I am conscious of the injury I suffered at Brands but I am mentally strong and I am confident that it will not affect my performance this weekend.”

Gregorio Lavilla was happy with his performance at Brands Hatch commenting afterwards on how he was hoping for dry conditions in round 2.

“I am looking forward to racing again at Donington, it holds some good memories for me from last year as I took the championship lead here. I am confident for this weekends racing, I am just hoping that we have dry conditions as I think that will be important to the result. We have worked on things since Brands and we are ready and confident for this round.”
