SPEEDWAY NEWS - 5 MARCH
05 April 2006 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 SOMERSET have signed Glen Phillips as a replacement for broken leg victim Jamie Smith. Phillips rode for the Rebels in 2000 but has spent most of his career with the Isle of Wight - who, ironically, are Somerset''s opponents this Friday. Phillips said: ''I really thought that this season had passed me by but I''m grateful for the chance and I will be looking to do my utmost.'' SPEEDWAY 2 FORMER Hull co-promoter Dave Peet has been granted permission to run a Vikings team away from home this season. The 2004 Premier League treble-winners are currently homeless but will now compete in a number of second-halves. Peet said: ''It''s not ideal but it keeps the Vikings name going. Everyone we''ve spoken to has been very positive and say they''ll have no problem accomodating us.''
