WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY: OXFORD 43 WOLVES 47
29 March 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
OXFORD 43 WOLVES 47 (KO Cup 1st leg) WOLVES collected their first win of the season with a hard-fought success over Oxford at Cowley - and are now hot favourites to make progress in the Knockout Cup ahead of Monday''s second leg. The most encouraging aspect of the performance was that six riders collected heat wins, with skipper Peter Karlsson in excellent form. Karlsson was beaten by Oxford''s Wolves loanee David Howe in Heat 1 but then reeled off four straight wins, whilst Billy Hamill was always in the action on his home track of last season and Fredrik Lindgren recovered well from a first ride fall. Oxford battled away without the unwell Tony Rickardsson, but even their star guest Leigh Adams was upstaged by Karlsson in the closing stages. With a couple of Wolves'' own assets in the opposing line-up at Monmore on Monday, the job is not complete but Wolves certainly have control of the tie. OXFORD: Leigh Adams 10+1, David Howe 9+1, Adam Skornicki 7+1, Eric Andersson 6, Davey Watt 5+2, Adam Pietraszko 4+1, Lubos Tomicek 2+1. WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 14, Billy Hamill 9+1, Fredrik Lindgren 8, Christian Hefenbrock 4+2, Magnus Karlsson 4+1, Ben Wilson 4, Krzysztof Pecyna 4.
