CADWELL PARK PLAYS HOST TO AUTO 66 ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS
31 March 2006 - MotorSport Vision

Clubmans Challenge Star series races at Lincolnshire track

The Auto 66 Club will invade Cadwell Park on Sunday 2nd April for the third round of their Road Race Championships, which have attracted a bumper entry of both solos and sidecars.

The championships cater for all classes of machine from 125cc up to Superbike and are run over 16 rounds at Cadwell Park and other venues across the north of England.

Sunday''s programme will consist of 27 races run under the championship''s new format with a qualifying race deciding the grid positions for the trophy race; this in turn determines the starting order for the 8-lap championship race for each class.

There is a host of local talent making an appearance in the Rookie Championship; Mike Hemsworth from Grimsby is entered on a Honda CBR 600 and in the 400 class will be Adam Oughtibridge from Scunthorpe.

Last year’s Rookie Champion Lee Threlfall, from Doncaster, has been the top flyer in the first two rounds of the championship and comes to Cadwell with his eyes firmly fixed on the 600 and Open Championship races. There is more opposition in the third round compared with the previous two though, from Huddersfield riders Roger Wibberley and Gary Chalkley, who make a welcome return to the series. Current champion Liam Marchant, from North Kelsey, will be the man they all have their sights set on in the Open competition.

The 125s should produce high quality racing with local lass Sam Burman, from Lincoln, making a welcome return after injury. Making a rare appearance in the 125GP class will be Manx GP winner Peter Turnbull from York - entered by Stewart Smith Racing.

Sidecars always provide good entertainment at Auto 66 meetings, particularly from the local crews. Of these, several are based extremely close to the track. Nigel Connole (Honda 600); Gary Bryan (Baker Yamaha 600); Drew Thompson (Molyneux Yamaha); Simon Hunt (Windle Yamaha 1000); David Hirst (Shelbourne Honda 600) and Nicholas Neave (Triumph RCN 955) all live within a few miles of Cadwell Park, where local knowledge makes a big difference.

Practice starts at 9am with the first of 27 races at 11am. Adult tickets for the meeting cost £12 per day, with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Parking and paddock access are also free.
