ROAD RACING RR125 WCH: 1ST ROUND JEREZ, SPAIN - RACE (26.03.2006)
26 March 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Mika Kallio and Julian Simon today finished, respectively, fourth and fifth in the Spanish GP, opening round of the 2006 season at Jerez.

Simon, who made a brilliant start from the front row, fought for the third position throughout the most part of the race, before being forced to slow down by small hitch with his chassis set up. Kallio rode a more regular race and, in the final lap, fought tooth and nail with Pasini for a podium spot. Finally he was just a whisker away from the third place but he nevertheless had a positive race. Michael Ranseder, crossed the finish line of his GP race debut in twentieth place.

Mika Kallio: “To be honest I’m not totally satisfied with my race, even if I could grab some important points for the Championship. I fought hard for the podium, but Pasini has been good in closing all the lines. Today the temperature was slightly lower than yesterday and we preferred a medium tyre to a hard one, but finally it was not a winning choice, because I had not enough grip during the final laps”.

Julian Simon: “Today I was able to made a good start and to keep a fast pace until I had to slow down due to a problem with my suspensions setting. I had difficulties in entering into the corners soI decided to finish the race without taking too much risks. In any case this has been a positive way to start the new Championship”.

The Technical Director Harald Bartold: ''We did know that Aprilia had some advantages in the 125cc class so, in general, I’m satisfied with our result today even if we had some problems with the rear tyre.''
