YAMAHA GOES AFTER TWO MX WORLD TITLES FOR 2005
20 August 2004 - Yamaha Racing

The Yamaha L&M Motocross Team has completed the 2005 rider line-up with the signing of Brian Jorgensen.

Denmark’s Jorgensen, winner of the German GP this season, will join motocross legend Stefan Everts in the hunt for the MX1 World Championship. The Michele Rinaldi managed team will field Cédric Melotte in the MX2 class.

Cédric Melotte, 26, had an impressive maiden season with the Yamaha L&M Motocross Team this year, scoring one GP win and four podium places in the MX1 World Championship. Melotski wants to carry that success into his MX2 campaign for 2005. “For next year my aim will be the world title in the MX2, and that is a very exciting challenge. At first it could seem strange to some people that I go to MX2 after quite a good season in MX1, but I really like the idea. My switch to another class is also part of a long-term plan to win the MX1 world title. Racing the 250 four-stroke will be good for me, because it simply is so fast and so much fun to ride. I realize that it’s going to be tough to win the title, but I don’t go after it unprepared. To know that I will keep on working with the Yamaha L&M Motocross Team and that I can learn from Stefan Everts for another year gives me great confidence.”

Jorgensen, 29, finished fourth in the 2003 MXGP World Championship and lies seventh in current standings despite several injuries. The former 125 European champion is not new to Yamaha, having competed for Yamaha UK in 2000 and 2001. Brian Jorgensen: “If you want to win a world title you naturally look around for the best team and the best bike. I know that Michele and his team are very professional. They are completely dedicated to get the best results out of their riders, and they had a lot of success before. I should adapt quickly to the team on a personal level as well. I have lived in Italy for some time now and I know Michele from when I was riding for Yamaha UK Race Team. I’m absolutely thrilled to be a part of this package for next season.''
