CORRECTION: AMA FLAT TRACK EVENT ADDED TO SCHEDULE
23 March 2006 - AMA Pro Racing

Correction: see Springfield date correction in last paragraph

AMA Pro Racing announced today that an AMA GNC Singles Championship doubleheader has been added to the AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship calendar.

Castle Rock Race Park in Castle Rock, Wash., will host the two-day affair on Aug. 12 and 13. Day one will feature a TT race while day two will showcase the nation’s top flat track riders on the quarter-mile short track. AMA Grand National riders last visited the TT course in 1994 where now seven-time Champion Chris Carr took his 31st career victory.

AMA Flat Track Series Manager Bruce Bober noted that these events are important to the growing GNC Singles Championship. “Not only does this event add two rounds to our expanding Singles Championship but it also allows us to bring our series out West,” commented Bober.

Bober added that the event will be promoted by the Mt. St. Helens Motorcycle Club.

The 2006 season kicked off at a double-header event held over March 8 and 9 at Daytona’s Municipal Stadium. Honda-mounted Bryan Smith was victorious on the first night while Suzuki’s Kevin Varnes took the checkered flag on night two. Smith leads the GNC Singles Championship by a slim, one–point margin over Jacob Johnson and Sam Halbert, both tied for second. Varnes sits in fourth place in the championship trailing by only four points.

The next round of the AMA GNC Singles Championship will be held on May 27 at the TT course at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. The following day will see the riders take to their Twins on the legendary Springfield Mile. For more information log onto www.amaflattrack.com or visit www.mshmc.org.
