HATS OFF SAVED KONNRAD KUEST FROM SERIOUS INJURY
19 August 2004 - Grand Prix Racewear

''That is the best e-mail I have ever received...I''m floating about a foot off the ground!''

That was Merril Vanderslice''s (AMA Pro Racing Vice President, Director of Competition) reaction to the news that the ''Hat''s Off'' device saved Konnrad Kuest from serious injury, or worse, at Troy Outdoor MX National in the States recently. Vanderslice had referred info on the Hat''s Off to Dr Bodnar, who got one and demo''d it at a supercross, then Parts Unlimited and the Warthog teamed up to make them available to everyone. Kuest is expected to fully recover from his neck injury after a lot of therapy.

When Konnrad Kuest injured his neck at Troy, he could have been paralyzed if someone would have pulled off his helmet. Instead he was using the ''hats off'' safety device in his helmet.

(The following information was posted on www.motonews.com

· His parents are thrilled.

· Our AMA guy that recommended it is thrilled.

· Doc Bodnar is very happy.

· The two organizations that sponsored buying them, Parts Unlimited and ''The Wonder Warthog,'' are still smiling and very proud.

Note: You may recall the ''hats off'' device that Dr Bodnar introduced this year at one of the Anaheims. It’s an inflatable doohicky they put in your helmet so if there is a suspected neck or spine injury, your helmet can be removed by inflating it. Dr Bodnar and the Asterisk medical crew keep the air pump with them and use it if someone is down and it may be needed. This time the result was good news.
