SPEEDWAY 1 JAN Staechmann has named a strong Danish Select side for the challenge at Stoke on Saturday. Elite League stars Charlie Gjedde, Morten Risager, Tom P Madsen and Mads Korneliussen all figure in the opening Loomer Road meeting of the season. Potters boss Dave Tattum said: ''It''s a terrific line up and I''d like to publicly thank Jan for all the hard work he has put in to this fixture'' SPEEDWAY 2 BELLE Vue''s rising star Simon Stead is hoping a winter spending spree will pay off this season. Stead has upgraded his machinery after some problems towards the end of last season and is now looking for some big scores. He said: ''This should be a big year for me and, after the money I''ve spent getting everything ready, I can''t afford for it not to be a good one.''
