SPEEDWAY 1

NEWPORT have agreed a major sponsorship deal with locally-based Everest Group - who will back the Wasps for the next two seasons.

It gives the club their first team sponsor since 2000, and promoter Tim Stone is delighted to welcome MD Gary Parker and his colleagues on board.

Stone said: ''Gary is a very pro-active and enthusiastic local businessman and we are very much looking forward to working together.''

SPEEDWAY 2

ELITE League stars Charlie Gjedde and Morten Risager have been named in the Danish Select team which will open Stoke''s season on March 18.

The Potters'' opponents are being chosen by former skipper Jan Staechmann, who is now team manager of Denmark.

Stoke promoter Dave Tattum said: ''We don''t know the full team yet, but if the first two names are anything to go by it should be very entertaining.''

SPEEDWAY 3

JASON Crump got his season off to a winning start by retaining the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy on his home track at Belle Vue.

The former World Champion defeated Poole''s Bjarne Pedersen in a run-off after both riders had tied on 14 points.

Crump said: ''Bjarne gave me a tough night, but I was happy with the way things went and pleased to start the season with a win.''
