2006 WORLD INDOOR TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP - G.P. BRAZIL (SAO PAULO)
08 March 2006 - Sherco
A fiasco in the first lap leaves Cabestany out of the final
After winning the event the past weekend in Lisbon (Portugal), the Sherco rider Albert Cabestany arrived in Brazil full of confidence and in high spirits. His goal was to complicate the life of Adam Raga in his fight for the Indoor Championship of the World. Things started well for Albert, he zeroed the first four sections, and was leading the field. The indoor Championship is so tightly fought that they do not permit the slightest error; Albert suffered a fiasco in section five and also in the extremely difficult section six. When all of the scores were tallied he missed making the final by three points. This victory for Raga confirms him as the 2006 Indoor Champion, it is now mathematically impossible for anyone to defeat him. Albert will continual to battle in the final two rounds to maintain his hold on second place. Albert Cabestany: “In this type of trial you cannot permit even the most minimum failure. I was riding very well up until the fifth section, where I committed an error that kept me from advancing to the final. Fortunately this finish does not change the provisional standings and we will continue to fight hard to maintain second place in the Championship.
