BILLY Hamill is hoping America will develop into a major force once again.

The Wolverhampton man, who won the world title in 1996, is backing Chris Kerr to be a success with new club Redcar.

He said: ''I hope Chris is the first of many young Americans who can prove a point or two in europe and put the states back on the world map of speedway again.''

SPEEDWAY 2

SCUNTHORPE will stage the Conference League Pairs championship on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1.

The club have been awarded the prestigious event which will start at 3pm with fans from throughout the country expected to attend.

All seven Conference members - Boston, Buxton, Mildenhall, Newport, Rye House, Scunthorpe and Stoke - will all do battle for the title and it will be the first Conference silverware available in 2006.
