1200CC HARLEY PRIZE FOR 74 YEAR OLD CHARITY WINNER
28 February 2006 - Harley-Davidson UK

74 year old James Smillie was handed the keys to a brand new 1200cc Harley Davidson motorcycle worth £7,000.

XPart, a division of Caterpillar Logistics Services UK Ltd, donated the prize as part of the Grand Prize Draw organised in support of BEN, the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund.

Raffle tickets for the Grand Prize Draw were sold at various key BEN charity events held throughout 2005 including the BEN Ball event in December, raising more than £30,000 for past and present employees and their dependants of the motor industry and allied trades. As a further windfall for the charity, James will be handing over the keys of his motorcycle and selling his prize through Stratstone Harley Davidson dealership. All of the money generated from the sale will also be handed back to charity.

“XPart is delighted to support the valuable work that BEN carries out,” commented John Parkinson, Chairman of XPart. “One in ten people in the UK are eligible for help, advice and support from the charity and events such as these are essential in the continued generation of funds.”

BEN was established in 1905 and offers practical help, support, advice and friendship to over 15,000 people in the UK. As a registered charity, BEN is funded in the main through donations coming from a variety of sources including large scale support from industry and a busy calendar of fund-raising events.

Gerard Barclay, Chief Executive of BEN added, “Many people throughout the UK have benefited from the charity’s work during the last 100 years and one of the main ways that we can continue to offer help and support is through the generous donations from companies such as XPart. Events such as these demonstrate the generous nature of the industry and their ongoing efforts to support those in need.”

XPart is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Logistic Services UK limited, one of the automotive industry’s leading supply chain management companies, and has been responsible for the supply of all genuine MG Rover parts since 2001. It is committed to the ongoing supply of genuine MG Rover parts for the next ten years and currently has 96% parts availability as part of its £40m MG Rover stock inventory. It has also established more than 180 XPart Autoservice centres (www.xpartautoservicecentre.com), providing all-makes franchise-quality servicing at affordable prices.
