SPEEDWAY 1 READING has been announced as the provisional venue for the final stages of the World Cup in July. The Smallmead venue will stage the Race-Off on July 20 and the Final on July 22 subject to stadium approval. The first round of the competition will take place at Rybnik in Poland, with round two at Malilla in Sweden before the action switches to the UK. SPEEDWAY 2 BERWICK have finally confirmed their first signing for the new season with Craig Branney joining as an A-grade reserve. And promoter Peter Waite expects to name another rider, possibly a completely new rider to Berwick, after the weekend. Waite said: ''Craig is just the sort of rider Berwick needs in 2006, he has massive enthusiasm and a genuine desire for success. We now have some busy days ahead.'' SPEEDWAY 3 NEW Weymouth promoter Phil Bartlett admits he fears for the sport''s future in the town after the club were refused permission to run in 2006. The Wildcats'' hopes were dashed after a council meeting threw out their application on noise grounds. Bartlett said: ''That''s written off this season and that''s the end of it in Weymouth. I''d already put our fixtures back but I can''t do anything in the timescale now.''
