Nick Wey:

“I got a good start in the mud race and that’s what it took”

“I got a good start and I can’t thank my team enough: MBK, Motosport, Honda, MSR and everyone else backing me up this year. I’m looking forward to pushing toward the front of the dry race and I’m exceptionally pumped to get a trophy here regardless of the circumstances.”

“I was sweating it, I crashed four times and got stuck in the gate once but I pulled it together for third place.”

“I’ve been working hard and Randy Laurence has been helping me. I feel on a dry track with a good start, I could work towards getting a podium. I think these two guys are in a class by themselves right now because I think I did one less lap and I got third.”

“I think the last time I got a podium was at a mud race in the 125 class a couple of years ago. I’m just excited to be up here with these guys who are the best in the world and the riders out here are the best of the best. Even at a mud race being third, I’m stoked on that. I’m just trying to get some momentum for the dry races and put myself in position for the top five placing in the overall standings.”

Ricky Carmichael:

“It was an exciting race tonight, we both rode our hardest and James beat me. I was happy to be on the podium to be honest. I accomplished my goal for the main event which was to not crash. So, I was happy for that.”

“Sometimes in the mud it can be hard to go for the lead because you’re sloshing around everywhere. A couple of times I was no where even close to making a run. Sometimes when James didn’t hit the rhythm lane he would give a little gap then I would catch him. Towards the end he got screwed up for the finish line because he couldn’t jump it, that’s when I made up a lot of time and once I got by him we had only two laps to go. I did my best and he just got me. He was prepared to give a little extra than I was. So, he deserves it. “

“I think I have gotten a little bit older, this is my tenth season. So, I’ve learned how to ride it and I do not take chances that I used to. Back when I was younger, sometimes I would take chances that would pay off but other times it would not be good at all. But now my ratio in the mud is ten times better than it has ever been which comes with time and experience.”

“Through the whoops, James took the inside or the center rut. I was just trying to get a good run. He got a little traction with only two laps to go and squirted in front of me so I had to let off. So, I backed down because it could have been bad for both of us. He got me and the rest is history from that.”

“I realized James would have to make a mistake for me to get by. But, I wasn’t going to take any risks and he rode harder to win the race.”

“Maybe I could have gone out and tried to catch him. I probably could have done a fast lap and so could he have. The way I rode tonight was taking the most chances that I wanted to take. So, I’ll take a second. I felt comfortable and I didn’t feel like laying on the mat. I think it would have cost me a lot more than backing it down and taking a close second rather than maybe not even being up here and taking Reed’s spot.”

James Stewart:

“The first few laps, I was in my own world just riding around.”

“I just wanted to get points and stay up. I got a good start. I made a few mistakes, but I never felt like I pushed it once.”

“I knew Ricky was behind me and I could hear the crowd going crazy every time I jumped the finish line or messed up. I couldn’t tell if Ricky had crashed or if he was right up on me. Then I looked back and saw the four and I was like there he is again. It was a good race and I don’t know where he got me. It was deja view all over again.”

“I don’t think I landed on anybody, I think I was close a few times. I actually watched the heat race when Ricky landed on Jeff Gibson; I was like now he knows what I feel like.”

“I think we both prefer dry races. It’s the same two guys up here every weekend. I think it’s going to be that way till Chad decides to step it up.”

“I never lost my confidence. It was two weeks in a row, I never felt like I didn’t give myself a chance. I feel like I have the speed but it helps confidence winning in the mud.”.
