TRUCKLINKS RACING: TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
31 January 2006 - Honda Racing
New challenge for cup champion
The 2005 British Supersport Cup champion Gary Johnson is aiming to be a new contender for the championship title this year, after receiving backing from a new team. The 25-year-old will race a Trucklinks Racing Honda CBR600RR in 2006. He is hoping to provide a strong challenge for established riders like Leon Camier and Pere Riba The team has placed an even greater emphasis on the championship this year by doubling its efforts in the form of a second rider and re-structuring the team set-up. Johnson will be joined by teenager James Westmoreland, who is making the step up from the British 125GP Championship. Although the team funding will continue to be provided by Trucklinks, the daily management aspect is being taken over by Lincolnshire-based company Dyno Centre. The motorcycle specialist is undertaking all of the work on the Dunlop-shod machines at its Binbrook motorcycle centre. Both riders are completely focussed on demonstrating their potential in the ultra-competitive series. They have started working together with a personal trainer and embark on a comprehensive testing schedule in three weeks time when their Dunlop-shod Honda CBR600RRs are fully prepared. The team is also travelling to Spain in mid-February for a seven-day test. Following, complete re-building of the motorcycles, Andy Rippin of the Dyno Centre is confident that the machinery will be competitive. Steve Bright said: ''It''s fantastic to have more input from the Dyno Centre this season and I hope that this will help us push the team to a new and more professional level. We''ve got two really good young riders and it''s great to be able to give them the opportunity to progress in motorcycle racing. ''We are expecting Gary to be even more impressive than he was last year, but he knows that he is taking on a big challenge. James''s approach will be much more relaxed and the main purpose of this year for him is really learning and development.''
