TIGERS AIM TO TAKE STING OUT OF WELSH WASPSSHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS v NEWPORT WASPSPREMIER LEAGUETHURSDAY AUGUST 12 - 7.45

SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS can boost their worrying league position with victory over struggling Newport at Owlerton on Thursday (7.45pm). Skipper Andre Compton has already admitted this week that the club are in the unfamiliar position of fighting for a place in the top eight, mainly thanks to some poor away form. Now they have the chance to build on a hard fought and impressive win over champions-elect Hull last weekend with the Welsh side hit town. Newport have a doubt over track specialist Craig Watson, who has been a regular at Owlerton this season with several guest appearances to cover for Sean Wilson. Watson is in Denmark on Friday to prepare for the World Championship final qualifier and frantic arrangements are being made in a bid to get him there from Owlerton. Compton is not taking anything for granted despite Newport''s lowly league position. He said: ''Every meeting has some significance for us now because we need to climb the league table. ''Whenever I look at the table it hurts and after our win against Hull this is a good chance for us to keep it going and climb even higher. ''Newport have riders who can get around our track so they won''t make it easy for us and we will be looking for a good, solid performance.''

TIGERS: Sean Wilson R/R, Andrew Moore, Richard Hall, Ricky Ashworth, Andre Compton, James Birkinshaw, Ben Wilson.
NEWPORT: Mads Korneliussen, Tony Atkin R/R, Pavel Ondrasik, Kristian Lund, Craig Watson, Carl Wilkinson, Barrie Evans.

*SHEFFIELD''S Confernce Trophy team, the Pirtek Prowlers, go to Wimbledon tonight (Wed) at 7.30pm.
