I was hitting the line in the heat race and the track got worse but the only thing I can do is go back and do my normal program. It really is all about picking a good line for each set of laps. I knew Ricky had some good lines and he didn’t have a problem keeping up with me. It was similar to how I felt in Toronto. You just watch the other guy make the mistakes and pick your line. My confidence is the same as it was in Vancouver, Toronto and Anaheim. I have been giving the rides away. I feel strong and it’s going to be a long season. I realize that there is no reason to hit the panic button. It’s a long season and I will go back and do the same routine as I’ve done before. I figure a good start is staying up. I was up the top seven or eight. So, the starts weren’t the problem tonight. I’ve made improvements on my starts and I will continue to keep making them. I knew the way the track was and the way Ricky has been riding he was going to be there for twenty laps unless one of us fell. If I was up front I would have made the same mistakes. It was just my line selection and what I was picking. I had fun the seventeen laps I was up. We both are on top of our game right now and we just need to move forward towards next week. Chad Reed: 2nd Place I made a few good laps and then a gap was made where I got into third and I just held that gap. I’d catch up a bit and then they’d pull it back out. It just kept going back and forth. I couldn’t do anything except put a good race together and wait for something to happen. Once James went down, I got in second. I want to make it a three way battle and make things happen. I saw them when we crossed the start straight. I was on one side and they were on the other. A couple of laps, I would catch them a little and then they would pull it back. It depends on what happens on the lap. Ricky and James kept the pace pretty good. I first heard the crowd and was hoping James and Ricky were in a pile up together. But, when I got up there it was only James. No, I don’t wish that on them but it would have been nice. I then knew there were only two laps to go. So, I just rode for second. All the way to the finish line, I charged. This weekend I felt the best I have felt all year long. I feel strong and have put some good laps together. I just keep pushing because you never know what’s going to happen and mistakes turn into some big ones. In the heat race, the starts were good. In the main start, I didn’t get the best jump. I spun a bit. I knew Ricky was going to get on the brakes hard and turn tight. So, I just set myself up to follow. Ricky Carmichael 1st Place: I am always happy to get a win. It’s unfortunate; I’d rather not won that way. I’d rather had passed James fair and square. But he was riding good and I was waiting for a slip up. I could have gone deep on him but I didn’t feel the time was right and it wasn’t necessary. I felt like waiting and unfortunately that happened to him, but I will take the win. I am more excited about the race and how fun it was. If all three of us could have battled that’s what we need and it is a step in the right direction. I felt I had a few times to put a move. I didn’t know what lap it was when he fell down. I was going to get him in the whoops going down the right side but I would have gotten through there on faith because he was riding so good. The biggest thing for me is keeping my cool. If I go too fast, I just get out of shape. Unfortunately that’s how it’s been my whole career. Luckily, I held onto it tonight. I just tried to rely on what I’ve learned in the ten years I’ve been racing. It’s a long series. I’ve been down this rode before and may the best man win. Regardless of the outcome, I rode smart and I was in control. It was a step forward for me. The race was a blast and its unfortunate what happened to James. I’m at a different stage in my career than these guys. I think better racing and more guys up front is going to generate more TV time. The best guy is always going to win no matter the track condition. The track was pretty easy tonight but it wasn’t easy putting in twenty good laps. James has amazing speed and has brought racing to a new level. Chad and I really have to step it up. I feel it’s good and we’re all pretty close.
