BMW 13TH STAGE OF DAKAR RALLY
15 January 2006 - BMW Motorrad GB

In the early hours of the morning one truck, one quad and twelve cars were still making their ways to the bivouac in Labé, Guinea.

However, onwards and upwards was the only mission for remaining Race to Dakar team member, Simon Pavey, as he embarked on today''s thirteenth stage of the 2006 Euromilhões Dakar Rally.

Riding BMW''s F650 GS Dakar machine from Labé to Tambacounda in Senegal, Pavey was forced to tackle a fast-paced 348km special riding across narrow tracks and thick dust before completing a tough 212km liaison that led all Dakar competitors to the highest point yet of the rally.

Simon completed today''s special stage in 8hrs 17mins 56secs placing him 89th in the overall standings. Fellow BMW rider Nick Plumb remains in 80th position.

Italian rider Giovanni Sala clocked today''s fastest time beating Frenchman, Cyril Despres by 3''12''. Sala now remains in third position overall with Marc Coma resting in a comfortable leading position and a 31''15'' advantage over Despres.

Tomorrow will see the Dakar battle continue as riders compete in the penultimate 634km stage from Tambacounda to Dakar - and one step closer to that final destination.
