29 July 2004 - Dunlop
Dunlop has launched SPORTMAX D208 RR, its new premium road radial tyre designed for riders of hypersport motorbikes with the highest level of versatility for road and trackday use.
The Dunlop SPORTMAX D208 RR provides a combination of race and road technology features, which lead to: - improved wet and dry grip - shorter warm-up time - more consistent grip - superb handling and cornering “The new SPORTMAX D208 Race Replica is designed for sporty motorcyclists who expect outstanding handling and cornering performance at high speed. Thanks to Dunlop’s enormous racing experience we have developed a tyre with racing capabilities for day to day use,” said Reg Davis, Motorcycle Sales and Marketing Manager. The new Dunlop D208 Race Replica is the official control tyre for the 2004 Virgin Mobile Yamaha RZF R6 Cup in the United Kingdom. Already this year, riders have enthused about the tyre’s lap times, consistency, durability and grip. Tread pattern: The new directional tread pattern, based on the championship winning D208 GP, has an optimized land to sea ratio. The land area increases with increasing lean angle to improve traction and stability when it’s needed. The 11% groove in the tyre’s center area leads to an excellent performance in all weather conditions. The 4% groove area in the shoulder increases the grip at greater lean angles. As the front tyre provides the majority of the braking force in contrast to the rear, (which provides the acceleration force) the tread pattern direction is reversed front to rear. Tyre construction: The Dunlop GP tyre technology applied to the front tyre reduces contact patch distortion and improves the tyre’s stability under braking and cornering. The rear tyre features Dunlop’s JLB Jointless Breaker system. This technical feature reduces centrifugal growth and reduces internal stresses. Both the front and rear tyres are equipped with Dunlop’s CTCS ‘carcass tension control system’. It controls casing stress distribution, optimizing casing tension, to improve cornering stability, straight-line traction and rider feedback. With the new Sportmax D208 RR the motorcyclist will be more confident. Tyre profile: The front tyre uses the latest Dunlop GP tyre profile for good steering response, giving easy and accurate corner entry characteristics with reduced steering effort. The optimized rear profile reduces changes in steering geometry, improving agility and maintaining traction in corners. Compound: The new Sportmax D208 RR tread pattern, profile and casing construction are optimized to allow the use of softer compounds without increasing the tyre’s wear rate. The new race-derived compound in the front and rear tyres uses synthetic elastomers for an enhanced grip consistency and a better performance on wet roads. Dunlop engineers have used silica in the rear compound. The softer polymers minimize the warm-up time and enhance the superb wet grip. Available sizes: Front 130/70 ZR 16 M/C (61W) TL 120/60 ZR 17 M/C * (55 W) TL 120/65 ZR 17 M/C (56W) TL 120/70 ZR 17 M/C (58W) TL Rear 160/60 ZR 17 M/C * (69W) TL 180/55 ZR 17 M/C (73W) TL 190/50 ZR 17 M/C (73W) TL
