DAVID CHAVES COMPETES IN THE LAST LAS VEGAS ENDUROCROSS
19 November 2005 - Sherco
David Chaves of Team Sherco USA was invited by the organizers to compete in the second annual Las Vegas Enduocross.
The race pits the top riders in the world in an Enduro/Supercross race which is held in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Nevada. This arena holds 10,000 people and it was completely sold out. Twenty Three riders were invited to compete in this race, (David was one of the invitees) anyone else who wanted to compete was allowed to attempt to qualify on Friday the 18th, 150 riders competed for 10 places; these 10 riders joined the 23 who were invited. These 33 riders were then reduced to 10 riders who competed in the final race for the championship on Saturday night. The riders rode in three heats, the first 2 riders advanced to the final, and the remaining riders competed in three semis, the first place rider advanced to the final, the remaining riders competed in the LCQ for the remaining spot. Before the qualifying races all of the riders walked the course to observe the obstacles and try to pick the best line, they spent a lot of time checking out the rocks as this is where most of the crashes and stalls occurred on Friday. They then rode one ''HOT'' lap to determine their starting position in the heat races. David Chaves: ''I really liked the track, the layout was very favorable to my style of riding, and I rode a stock Sherco 4.5i and have nothing but great things to say about the bike, it was absolutely awesome. The only problem that I had was the start, I have never in my life started from a Motocross gate, in the first two races I was the last one out of the gate, I did a little better in the LCQ, I believe that with some practice I could have a better chance fighting for first place. I really enjoyed the competition and hope to make the main next year. I want to give a big thank you to all of my loyal sponsors, Sherco USA, Ryan Young Products, Maxima, Tire Balls, Xc-ting and Summers Racing Components.'' David had the twelfth best time of the 33 riders which placed him in the third heat race, he finished 4th in this race. There were two other Spanish riders in this race, Ivan Cervantes and Cristobal Guerrero, both of them are World Champions, David finished ahead of Cristobal. Immediately after this race David who was soaking wet and tired raced in the second semi race, in which he finished 3rd. In order to advance to the main he would have to win the LCQ, in which he place 3rd again. The final results show David finishing 12th overall. Sherco congratulates David for a job well done.
