BIKERS WARNING ABOUT FESTIVE DRINK DRIVING DANGERS
19 December 2005 - Bennetts

Bennetts, the UK’s number one for motorcycle insurance, has issued a festive warning to bikers

Bennetts tell bikers to stay alert and safe over Christmas and New Year after discovering that 66 per cent of bikers are worried about the increased risk of drink drivers over the holiday period.

Bennetts’ Christmas poll asked bikers to register their motorcycling plans for the festive period on an online survey.

The survey revealed that more than 62 per cent of riders were planning on taking their bike out for a spin over the Christmas break but with bikers already facing many unique problems on the road, such as potholes, diesel spills and darker days, many bikers are also now concerned about seasonal problems such as an increase in drink driving.

Bennetts Director, Kal Samra, said: “Our survey shows that most bikers will be thinking about taking their bike out over Christmas and New Year for a festive spin but that many are worried about the added seasonal dangers from Christmas drink drivers.

“Bennetts is urging all road users not to drink and drive this Christmas and is sending a special festive warning to bikers to stay safe and alert whilst out and about during the holiday period.”

Elsewhere, Bennetts found the gift most bikers wanted in their leather-clad stocking this year is a track day outing, with a new bike and a new helmet claiming second and third places, respectively.

The worst thing about riding at Christmas was the biting cold (44%), closely followed by family commitments eating into valuable riding time.
