WOLVERHAMPTON have swooped to sign 1996 world champion Billy Hamill in a loan deal with Coventry.
Hamill, who started his career with the defunct Cradley Heathens in 1990, has often been a thorn in Wolverhampton''s side. Now he is set to wear the black and gold colours as he completes an exciting spearhead alongside Swedish duo Peter Karlsson and Freddie Lindgren. Wolves chief Chris Van Straaten has revealed how he had the chance to sign Hamill previously - but snubbed the move. He said: ''I had very emotional connections with Cradley Heath in my younger days and, if anything, that has stopped me from bringing Hamill to the club earlier. ''We have had the opportunity to sign him in previous seasons, but we have put that behind us now and I''m sure he will be giving his all for Wolverhampton. ''I took the decision not to sign him in the past because I believed Cradley would have been back on track in the late 90s, that''s when we had the chance to sign him. ''It''s unlikely they will be back during Hamill''s career which is a tragedy, but that''s another story for another day.''
