10 August 2004 - BMW Motorrad GB
Industry-leading training facility ensures premium sales and after-sales service
On 29 July, Dr Michael Ganal, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for sales and marketing opened a new 33 million Euro technical training facility in Unterschleissheim near Munich. The ''BMW Group Sales and Aftersales Training Academy'' will be the flagship training centre for 45,000 employees within the BMW Group worldwide dealer network. Service engineers will be able to develop the advanced engineering knowledge required to work on the latest BMW and MINI vehicles. In the past two years, BMW has launched more new models than ever before in its history, each fitted with a wide range of innovative technologies. In premises covering 20,000 square metres, up to 450 participants per day will receive further training, with the focus on practical learning. 70 technical training stations for cars and motorcycles have been developed alongside an axle measurement work station, power testing station and a model parts store. A special unit will concentrate on electrical engineering, electronics and even high-frequency engineering. Service engineers will be able to practice real situations in role plays and plans are underway for a ''Virtual Reality Room'', in which trainers and participants will be able to work on virtual vehicles through computer-linked goggles and gloves. Over 10,000 German dealer staff will be trained at the centre. Staff from international markets including the UK will work on the principle of ''train the trainer'', whereby trainers and technical specialists will participate in the Academy and then pass on their knowledge to the training establishments in their ‘home’ countries. BMW GB’s Centre for Development trains over 4000 dealer staff every year and has recently been awarded an ‘outstanding’ grade for its modern apprenticeship programmes by the government’s Adult Learning Inspectorate. In addition, BMW Group has seven other regional training locations in Germany and 30 worldwide. There are national training centres in Dubai, Moscow, Singapore and Beijing.
