NEWS FROM WOLVERHAMPTON
10 December 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
WOLVERHAMPTON have been given permission to hold talks with 1996 world champion Billy Hamill.
Hamill spent last season on loan to Oxford and his parent club, Coventry, have now given the Monmore club the green light to open talks with the Californian. If a deal is concluded it would mean Hamill linking up with his third midland club having started his career with the defunct Cradley Heathens in 1990 before moving to Belle Vue and then Coventry. Wolverhampton promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''Obviously I''m aware of all the speculation surrounding Billy Hamill and I believe it''s only fair to our supporters that we clarify the position. ''Normally I will only talk about riders when they have signed, but because of the speculation in the media I am now prepared to confirm that we have permission from Coventry to speak to Billy and we will now be doing so over the next few days. ''We must stress that this does not mean we are certain to sign him as we must agree financial terms, but I hope this puts people in the picture for now.''
