AIRWAVES DUCATI TEAM AWARD NOMINATION
10 December 2005 - Airwaves Ducati
AIRWAVES DUCATI TEAM NOMINATED FOR THE BBC SOUTH EAST SPORTS TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD.
The Airwaves Ducati team were celebrating further recognition of their Championship winning season on Sunday as they were nominated for the 2005 BBC South East Team of the Year Award. This season has been GSE Racing’s most successful year ever with Gregorio Lavilla winning the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and Leon Haslam finishing fourth. However Team Principle Darrell Healey is quick to point out that it is not just the riders who make up the team it is in fact all members from the management, mechanics and engineers through to the hospitality and marketing personnel that have made this season what it has been. “This really is a team sport, the riders could not go out there and win without the work that every single member of the team does, it is our joint effort and team spirit that makes us what we are and as successful as we have been.” It is somewhat ironic that the team were beaten by another motor sport outfit that of Tim and Tristan Reeves who were this year crowned the World Side Car Champions. The team were gracious in defeat to the newly crowned champions, knowing that further hard work and success from the Airwaves Ducati team in 2006 may mean they can win the award next year. Darrell Healey who attended the 2005 BBC South East Sports Awards ceremony in Brighton alongside Team Manager Colin Wright commented after the announcement of the winners, “To be recognised outside of the racing world for our achievements this season means a great deal to the whole team and we were honoured to be part of the awards.”
