WORLD’S FIRST SPEED CAMERA LOCATOR DESIGNED FOR MOTORCYCLES
07 December 2005 - Datatool (UK) Ltd

System designed to offer safety and protection will remain legal under proposed Road Safety Bill

Datatool the UK’s premier motorcycle solutions supplier has been appointed the exclusive UK distributor for the worlds first speed camera location system specifically designed for motorcycles. Inforad, priced at just £99.95, uses GPS satellite technology to alert motorcycle riders to the presence of fixed speed camera locations and accident blackspots.

Inforad knows the exact location of a motorcycle and its proximity to a fixed speed camera site. Using GPS technology, riders will be warned in advance when approaching a fixed speed camera location by an ultra bright LED. If riders are exceeding the designated speed limit within the fixed speed camera location the LED will flash. The LED is mounted on a highly flexible stalk, which is installed at the front of the motorcycle and can be adjusted to the rider’s line of sight.

The Inforad database is constantly updated with new camera sites which users can download via the internet. Downloads are free in the first year and available in subsequent years for the market’s lowest annual subscription rate of £24.99.

Inforad also offers European protection, as it contains details of fixed camera sites in France, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

Speed cameras remain in more than 6,000 locations across the UK, despite surveys throwing doubt over their effectiveness and even raising concerns about links to increased road deaths. A recent survey carried out by the Association of British Drivers claimed that speed cameras may actually increase the number of fatal accidents at dangerous sites around the UK. It found that road deaths at the type of accident site targeted by speed cameras have risen significantly since cameras were first introduced in 1991.

Nick Grimond, Managing Director of TG21, Datatool’s parent company, comments: ''The Government’s Road Safety Bill acknowledges that GPS based systems like Inforad complement the Government''s policy to ensure that camera sites are visible and conspicuous to road users, and so help deter excessive and inappropriate speeds on the roads.''

Nick Grimond concludes: ''We know that the sudden braking and acceleration at camera sites is a hazard in itself. Inforad can eliminate this and independent MORI research has shown that 76% of safety camera detector users drive more carefully as a result of their use.''
